The independent noncommercial organization “Center for Contemporary Korean Studies” is founded by Institute of World Economy and International Relations (IMEMO, Russian Academy of Sciences) and joint-stock company “Han Ru” representing Korean sponsors on  the base of IMEMO, and officially registered in Moscow in  March, 2003.

The main tasks of the Center are: to analyze political and economic issues on the Korean peninsula in the regional context; to support exchanges of the knowledge of modern Korea in Russia and the knowledge of Russia in the states of the Korean peninsula; to stimulate academic contacts between Russian and Korean experts and researchers.

The Center supports the research projects, first of all, implemented  by Russian experts and supports publication of the results of the research projects. The Centre  periodically organizes  printing of monographs and other papers in Russian and Korean languages as well.

The Center is publishing on a regular basis a journal in Russian and Korean “KORUS FORUM”, which presents the articles by Russian and Korean authors and information about academic events at the Center. Corresponding web-site in three laguages is run by the Center.

 The important direction of activity of the Center is  arranging  meetings and discussions of experts on topical issues of the Korean peninsula, on the development of political and economic relations between Russia and both Korean states: the Republic Korea and DPRK. The Center periodically organizes academic forums and symposiums of the appropriate orientation on an interdisciplinary basis. Results of these meetings and forums as well as appropriate conclusions are distributed in Russia, on the Korean peninsula and in other countries among experts, politicians and businessmen.

Administrative management by the Centre is carried out by the Council of Trustees and the Managing Board including representatives of founders. Academic activities of the Centre are directed by the  Academic Council of the Centre which consist of leading Russian experts in Korean affairs and representatives of foreign research centers. The informal "umbrella" structure allows to bring together on a democratic basis the broad audience of experts depending on an orientation of the project to provide free academic discussions and exchanges of various opinions.
